✨Language Tip: Don't Wait!✨

🗣️ 1. Speak from Day One

Don’t wait until you “know enough.” Start with simple phrases like:

Hola, ¿cómo estás? or Bonjour, ça va ?

Even talking to yourself counts!

🎧 2. Immerse with Music & Podcasts

Play background music or podcasts while cooking or driving. Some favorites:

Café Tacvba, Duolingo Spanish Podcast

Stromae, Coffee Break French

📅 3. Keep It Short & Sweet

Study 10–15 minutes daily rather than cramming once a week. Routine beats intensity!

😂 4. Embrace Mistakes

Language is messy—and that's okay! Laugh, learn, and keep going. Everyone confuses por vs para or être vs avoir at first.

Lingo to Know:Speak Like a Native

French Lingo:

🥞 Faire la crêpe

In French summer slang, "faire la crêpe" literally means “to make the crêpe”, but don’t worry—it’s not about cooking! It’s a playful way to describe lying in the sun to tan, especially when you flip over to get evenly tanned on both sides—just like flipping a crêpe in a pan.

For example:

"Elle passe son après-midi à faire la crêpe sur la plage."

(She’s spending her afternoon lying in the sun at the beach.)

"J’ai trop fait la crêpe, j’ai brûlé !"

(I tanned too much—I got burned!)

⭐ Fun Fact:

The expression comes from the way people sunbathe—lying flat on one side, then flipping over, just like a crêpe in a frying pan! It’s a perfect example of the French love for food... even in their slang.⭐

Spanish Lingo:

🦐 Estar como una gamba

In Spanish, the slang phrase "estar como una gamba" (literally: “to be like a shrimp”) is a humorous way to describe someone who got sunburned—because shrimp turn bright red when cooked, just like people who stay in the sun too long without protection!

For example:

"Madre mía, estás como una gamba después de la playa." (Oh wow, you’re totally sunburned after the beach.)

"Me olvidé la crema solar y ahora estoy como una gamba."

(I forgot sunscreen and now I’m red like a shrimp.)

⭐ Fun Fact:

In Spain, gambas are not just tasty tapas—they’re a whole summer mood. This phrase is super common on Spanish beaches, and it’s a playful way to roast (pun intended!) your friends for getting too much sun.⭐

Join us for a delightfully French afternoon with Baguette & Bicyclette – a relaxed bike ride followed by a picnic and French conversation practice! Whether you're a beginner or fluent in French, this is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the language while enjoying food, fun, and fresh air.

What to expect:

🚲 A vintage-style bike ride (French-inspired outfits encouraged: stripes, berets, etc.)

🥖 Group picnic with baguettes, cheese, fruit, and classic French treats

🗣️ French conversation games, language activities, and group discussions

🎶 French music to set the mood

Location: Washington Park Loop Road

French Level: All levels welcome

What to bring: A bicycle (required), picnic blanket, something to share (optional), and good vibes!

Price:Early-bird pricing $10 in advance, $15 at the event – includes snacks and picnic goodies. Please bring your own bike.

📖4 day Summer Immersion Registration Open📖

Spots are still available for our Language Immersion Camp. We now have a maximum capacity of 8 children per camp! Both camps will be exploring culture and different countries while incorporating arts and crafts.The camps are designed as a midpoint between afterschool enrichment and private lessons, providing personalized learning in a small group setting.

Camp Dates:

📚 Spanish: June 30th – July 4th, 9am–3pm

Cost: Full Day $300/child (maximum 8 children per session), Half Day$150/child

Spaces are limited for this trial program. If you're child is already singed up please make sure you have paid the deposit fee to guarantee a spot. Registered students will receive updates and further information in the next two weeks. Reach out for more information or click here to register!
